Just put together a Z87 build based on an ASUS Z87 Expert (Bios 0903) / i7-4770K - H220 / Redline 997122R / Win7 x64 ...

The rig boots fine in both the Auto (1600) & the XMP (2400) AI Tweaker settings ....
... but, the board's Q Code shows "51" - Memory initialization error. Invalid memory type or incompatible memory speed.

fwiw - the 16GB is recognized; & the both the Bios & CPU-Z show the correct memory speeds, capacity, & timings in both settings ...
... & the machine "seems" to be running fine so far (no OC'ing other than the RAM XMP setting) ...

I did call Mushkin tech support prior to the purchase of the 997122R to ask about Redline's compatibility with the Z87 chipset boards, & was told that any modules that were for Z77 will be fine with Z87.

So, just wondering what I might need to do to get the board to boot into the Q Code "A0", or if this might be an issue fixed with an ASUS bios update ??

Hi,

That has to be some early BIOS bug, the memory is running so the code is not correct.
This type of misreporting is normally fixed with a BIOS update.

You have BIOS version 0903, that looks like it is earlier than the first release(1008) that is on the Asus support page

Hi Sean - thanks for the quick reply ... B)

I thought about the bios update to v.1008, & will try that next - will see if that gets me to the "A0" Q Code ...
I'm still getting used to the new ASUS Z87 bios' features & functions ...
... moving on from my Z68 / SB builds (skipped Z77 / IB); & the Z87 / Haswell bios looks to have some neat stuff I'll need to learn about ...

I'll reply back with the bios update result, & thanks as always for the great RAM ...

I was running a Memtest86 v.4.20 with the Redline running at Auto : 1600 MHz ...

I wasn't sure what to make of what Memtest86 was showing : RAM : 0 MHz (DDR3- 0) / CAS : 19-15-15-31 / "Triple Channel" ??
... wondering again if this is a Haswell compatibility thing ?

EDIT : apparently the v.4.20 thing is a Haswell issue ---- as it looks like Memtest86+ v.5.00 is being worked on presently ... :woohoo:

EDIT : I tried moving the 2 RAM modules from the manual's recommended A2 & B2 slots (tan), to the A1 & B1 slots (black) ...
... it made no difference in the machines booting, or with the Q Code 51 error ...

Updated the Bios to v.1008; via EZ Flash 2 ---- unfortunately the Q Code : 51 error is the same ...

... & again, the machine boots into Windows just fine - posting this reply from the Z87 Expert rig ...

EDIT : Cleared the CMOS; just for good measure - same Q Code 51 error ...

MemTest has been working on version 5.00 for a while, hopefully they get it finalized soon.

Looks like everything is working fine though, just need to wait for A BIOS update for that code.
New platform bugs....
