Hi Sean - sorry for re-hashing an old thread.

I've had good luck with these sticks on my rig. I'll try to post specs in my sig in a bit.

My question is this. When I set my timings on my my Asus Crosshair V Formula and leave auto to some of the settings, I'm not sure that they are matching the SPD XMP timings and I'm concerned that this may be causing instability. I'll list the timings so you can see what I mean and perhaps you can recommend the best timings.

DRAM Timing Control
indicates manual settings
CAS# Latency = 9
RAS# to CAS# Delay = 11
RAS# PRE Time = 10
RAS# ACT Time = 28
READ to PRE Time = Auto (7)
RAS# to RAS# Delay = Auto (6)
WRITE to READ Delay = Auto (7)
CAS# WRITE Latency = Auto (8
WRITE Recovery Time = Auto (14)
REF Cycle Time = Auto (300ns)
ROW Cycle Time = 38
READ to WRITE Delay = Auto (7)
WRITE to READ Delay (DD) = Auto (3)
WRITE to WRITE Timing = Auto (4)
READ to READ Timing = Auto (6)
Refresh Rate = Auto (7.8ms)
Command Rate = 1T

Now from Asus SPD information this is XMP#1 recommendation:
Frequency (Mhz) = 2133
Voltage (V) = 1.650
CAS# Latency (tCL) = 9
RAS# to CAS# (tRCD) = 11
RAS# Precharge (tRP) = 10
tRAS = 28
tRC = 38
(here is where I get confused)
tWR = 16
tRRD = 7
tRFC = 171
tWTR = 8
tRTP = 8
tFAW = 32
tCWL =
Command Rate =

Any advice and direction would be appreciated -

What is the CPU?

It is not uncommon for the mobo to not follow the XMP with the sub timings.

CAS# Latency = 9
RAS# to CAS# Delay = 11
RAS# PRE Time = 10
RAS# ACT Time = 28
READ to PRE Time = Auto (7) tRTP 8
RAS# to RAS# Delay = Auto (6) tRRD 7
CAS# WRITE Latency = Auto (8 tCWL is normally equal to or -1 of CAS# Latency, so it is correct
WRITE Recovery Time = Auto (14) tWR 16
REF Cycle Time = Auto (300ns)tRFC in the XMP it is clocks, AMD uses ns, 160ns should be fine.
ROW Cycle Time = 38
Command Rate = 1T

Those settings should work, tRFC could be 160ns.

Is the system not stable at 2133?

System is perfectly stable at 2133, however, I'm experimenting w/ speeds of 2133 vs 2000 w/ tighter timings.
I'm assuming that 300ns is a more conservative setting correct?
Looks like DDR3-2000 w/ tight timings has the best latency results. I think it's just the way the controller reacts to this memory at this scale. Can't wait to see what Steamroller will do.

btw - even if I set mem to override to 160ns in bios it still runs at 300ns. Not sure how to force the override.
